Wildlife Conservation General  Administration

Established in 1902, the Wildlife Conservation General Administration (WCGA) is the Sudanese government authority charged with the responsibility for the management of terrestrial and marine protected areas (MPA) in Sudan. The WCGA is responsible for implementing the Federal Protection of Hunting and National Parks Law of 1986 related to the biodiversity and habitat conservation in Sudan, and for the management of both Sanganeb Atoll Marine National Park (SMNP) and Dungonab Bay and Mukkawar Island National Park (DMNP). The WCGA has permanent offices in Port Sudan and in Mohammed Qol, where the WCGA headquarters for DMNP are based. The WCGA MPA staff currently based in the Red Sea State include the General Manager for MPAs, two Managers -one for DMNP and the other for SMNP, and 22 rangers, who are based in the park.

Functions and Responsibilities:

• Setting and implementing the laws and legislations concerning protected areas in Sudan.
• Setting management plans and polices for the protected areas in Sudan.
• Encouraging wildlife studies and research, as well as increasing awareness among Sudanese people.
