- Both green turtles (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) can be seen in SMNP and Sha’ab Rumi. Hawksbill turtles are more frequently sighted in the waters of Sanganeb Atoll.
- It is possible that SMNP is a feeding ground for hawksbill turtles, and that green turtles may be found periodically in the surrounding waters. But there is no enough information available on the status of turtles in SMNP.
- All species of marine turtles are globally endangered and are CITES listed (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora)
