On 9 May 2026 UNESCO Representative to Sudan Junaid Sorosh-Wali led an assessment and stakeholder engagement mission to Dungonab Bay and Mohammed Gol, working with Red Sea State and federal authorities. The mission focused on community and women empowerment through ecotourism, vocational training, site management and monitoring, and improved access to clean water — demonstrating UNESCO active engagement with the site despite the conflict in Sudan.
